CASE STUDY
Grundfos is the world's largest industrial / consumer pump manufacturer, producing more than 16 million pumps per year & generating $4B+ in revenue annually. Grundfos hosts an annual competiton, the WaterPRO Championship, which is a year-long traveling activation that pits professional water well contractors, sales reps, licensed dealers, & employees across the US, Canada, Europe, & Aruba against each other in a skills & knowledge-based competition, with the chance to win a $10,000 grand prize & claim glory in the invitational finale hosted in Las Vegas.
As an international competition, strict legal fairness standards are required for WaterPRO Championship games to ensure a level playing field for all contestants. Additionally, games are required to connect to a central scorekeeping system, and must provide a fun & engaging atmosphere for players & spectators alike, while also being able to pack down into a single case for international travel.
ShowMeVirtual worked with Grundfos to build Race to Install VR - a virtual reality racing + trivia game that tasked players to deliver a Grundfos SQ submersible pump to a rural customer's house, by way of speeding down a winding country road while avoiding a barrage of hazards like potholes, sharp turns, rolling haybales, & other obstacles.
Upon arrival, the player is then tasked with installing the pump by answering trivia questions correctly, in order to lower the pump into the customer's well. Upon completion of the game, our integrated scoreboard system logged each player’s score and presented both local & global rankings in real-time. ShowMeVirtual also provided a detailed user-guide, documentation, & end-to-end staff training for running the activation.
The Race to Install VR experience ran flawlessly in 79 cities (across US, Canada, Europe, & Aruba) over 9 months, using 8 custom VR driving stations to reach over 12,000 players. Grundfos' management loved the experience and players & spectators alike had a blast competing with & heckling each other during the game.
