Team RBC Golf - 360° VR Video Vignette Series

ShowMeVirtual Confetti

ABOUT

In collaboration with an international sports marketing agency, ShowMeVirtual was tasked with creating a series of 360° video vignettes to showcase a 'day-in-the-life' of Team RBC professional golfers Jim Furyk, Graham DeLaet, & Brooke Henderson, highlighting their tournament preparations & mindset before major events. These behind-the-scenes VR vignettes would be featured as a main attraction of the Team RBC Fan Tour (Team RBC Golf's traveling activation that exhibits on-site at major tournaments in the men's & women's pro golf circuit), allowing fans to share a unique experience with their favorite pro golfers.

CHALLENGE + SOLUTION

Professional golfers have extremely busy schedules, so their time (even for obligated media projects) is extremely limited. For each golfer, we had about 30 minutes total spread across multiple locations with the athlete to capture both video scenes & audio voiceover narration, requiring extensive scouting, planning, & coordination with various teams, & leaving little room for error. Using our fleet of bespoke camera rigs, we filmed these vignettes in three separate locations over the course of several months (Harbour Town Golf Links & Wexford Golf Club in Hilton Head, SC & Blythefield Country Club in Grand Rapids, MI), & built the videos into a VR video player application to bring fans into the world of Team RBC's top professional golfers.

RESULTS

The Team RBC Golf Virtual Reality activation premiered at the RBC Heritage & RBC Canadian Open, & continued to tour with the Team RBC Fan Tour across other PGA and WPGA events. The activation dazzled fans (many having never tried VR before), generated positive press in golf publications, & the 360° VR video vignettes were also featured on Team RBC Golf’s homepage for the duration of the season. The activation was so successful, that the client went on to tour it again for a second season.
